A pillow that supports your spine, relieves tension, and helps you sleep better?

Sounds promising, doesn’t it?

The popular Derila pillow from Lithuania even claims to open up your airways – and potentially reduce snoring in the process.

But does this memory foam pillow really live up to the hype?

We put the Derila pillow to the test and share our honest experience in this in-depth Derila pillow review. 👇

Derila Pillow

Advantages:

  • Compact and lightweight – ideal for travel

  • The cover feels soft and well-made

Disadvantages:

  • High delivery costs – especially for a lower-priced pillow
  • Returns process is a bit complicated and may involve extra fees
  • Contoured shape doesn’t suit all sleeping styles
  • Hard to find a well-fitting pillowcase due to the small size
  • Loose threads on the inner lining suggest lower-quality finish
  • Some Derila pillow reviews on Trustpilot are negative

What makes the Derila pillow special?

One thing is immediately noticeable about the Derila pillow: its unique shape.

It features side support wings and a central neck contour carved into the foam.

This design is intended to position your head at the right height while sleeping on your back, while also offering lateral support.

Flip the pillow 180° and you’ll find that the dip is slightly sloped – a feature meant to provide more comfort for different sleep positions [1].

This makes the Derila memory foam pillow suitable for:

  • Travellers looking for a compact pillow for on-the-go
  • Teens or younger people who prefer a smaller pillow
  • Anyone who prefers a firmer, structured pillow

What is the Derila pillow made of?

The Derila pillow is built from two main components:

  • A blue memory foam core

  • A removable and washable outer cover

Let’s take a closer look.

The derila pillow memory foam

Inside the Derila memory foam pillow, you’ll find a blue foam layer with small perforations designed to improve airflow.

derila pillow foam

This helps the pillow stay more breathable during the night.

According to the manufacturer, this type of memory foam [2] (also known as viscoelastic foam) should mould precisely to your head shape, offering targeted support.

But here’s what we noticed right away:

The foam feels surprisingly firm – and the classic slow-response “memory” effect that this material is known for?

It’s barely there. 👀

Instead of slowly bouncing back into shape, the foam recovers very quickly after pressure is released.

This suggests that the foam quality isn’t the highest.

In comparison, pillows like the Lilia Forever Pillow or the Emma Pillow use premium-grade foam with a noticeably better feel.

The derila pillow cover

The cover of the Derila pillow is removable and washable at 40 °C – which is more than acceptable.

It features breathable mesh panels along the sides, designed to improve ventilation.

That’s a big plus, especially when dealing with a denser foam core that tends to retain heat.

We found the zip easy to use, and the fabric itself feels smooth and reasonably high quality.

However, we did spot some loose threads on the inside lining:

This shouldn’t really happen in this price range.

How comfortable is the Derila pillow?

In our test, the Derila pillow didn’t fully support our tester’s neck and head – at least not in a way that felt natural.

Of course, comfort is subjective.

Some people may enjoy this sculpted pillow shape.

Our tester, however, prefers flatter pillows with even foam layers – like the Lilia Forever Pillow or the Emma Support Pillow, both of which offer adjustable height and better contouring.

We’d rate the Derila pillow as acceptable for side and back sleepers – but with limitations.

For side sleepers

The shape of the Derila pillow is clearly designed for side sleeping.

You’re meant to rest your head on the raised “butterfly” wings, which are around 13 cm high.

Derila pillow side sleepers

This height can work – especially if you have broader shoulders and sleep on a firmer mattress.

However, not everyone will find the neck contour comfortable.

It really depends on your shoulder width, mattress firmness and how much support your cervical spine needs.

For back sleepers

Back sleepers may find the central dip in the pillow useful – it’s designed to cradle your head and promote spinal alignment.

But there’s a catch:

Very few people stay on their back all night.

derila pillow back sleepers

Most of us change positions during sleep, and that’s where the Derila pillow’s fixed shape can become a drawback.

If you move a lot, you might find the dip restrictive or even awkward.

For stomach sleepers

Although the manufacturer claims that the Derila memory foam pillow is suitable for all positions, we wouldn’t recommend it for front sleepers.

Why?

Sleeping on your stomach generally puts strain on your neck – and this pillow is simply too high for that position.

If you're a committed stomach sleeper, a very flat pillow – or no pillow at all – is often the better choice.

Better alternatives: adjustable pillows

In our experience, adjustable pillows tend to be the most versatile and comfortable – especially if you're looking for something that adapts to your build and sleep habits.

And remember: your sleep comfort depends on more than just the pillow.

Your mattress, bed base and even your topper all play a role in how well your body is supported.

If you’re after truly personalised support, we’d recommend checking out top models like the Simba Hybrid Pillow or the Emma Premium Foam pillow – both scored highly in our UK pillow test.

Size and weight of the Derila pillow

The Derila pillow measures 50 × 30 cm and has a height of around 13 cm.

That makes it one of the more compact memory foam pillows – which also means it can double as a travel pillow if needed.

Another plus: it’s fairly lightweight.

At just 660 grams, it’s easy to carry and move around – ideal for those who travel often or need a second pillow for on-the-go comfort.

Where can i buy the derila pillow?

We ordered our Derila pillow directly from the official website.

You can also find the Derila pillow UK on Amazon – which is a good way to compare prices and check Derila pillow reviews before buying.

How much does the Derila pillow cost?

The regular Derila pillow price is listed at over £130 – which we think is too expensive for what you get.

However, the pillow is almost always on offer and usually sells for under £40.

So yes, the price may seem cheap – but only thanks to a permanent discount.

There are also bundle deals available: you can save a few pounds if you buy two or three pillows at once.

⚠️ A quick heads-up:

Some Derila pillow reviews on Trustpilot mention that customers accidentally ordered multiple pillows due to confusing checkout options.

Derila pillow delivery, return and sleep trial

Let’s start with the positives:

We received our Derila pillow fairly quickly after ordering, and communication via WhatsApp and email was smooth and informative.

The pillow arrived vacuum-packed, which made it easy to transport and store.

However, there was a downside:

The packaging involved a lot of plastic – not ideal if you’re trying to be environmentally conscious.

Also, like with many foam products, there was a noticeable off-gassing smell at first.

If you’re sensitive to odours, we recommend airing the Derila memory foam pillow out for a few hours before use.

Delivery costs

One clear drawback?

The shipping fee.

At nearly £9, delivery is quite expensive – especially compared to many competitors who offer free or much cheaper shipping for pillows in this price range.

Can I return the Derila pillow?

Technically, yes – but it’s not as simple as it sounds.

Derila advertises a “30-day satisfaction guarantee”, but here’s the fine print:

  • Full refund: Only possible if you return the pillow unused and unopened within 14 days

  • From day 15 onwards: Only the product price is refunded – delivery charges are non-refundable

  • Return shipping: You have to pay for return shipping yourself, and the pillow must be returned in its original packaging

Some Derila pillow reviews complaints on Trustpilot mention frustrating experiences with returns – with several users saying they struggled to get a response or had issues with refunds.

We didn’t return our own Derila pillow UK sample this time, so we can only reference past experience (see FAQ below for more details).

If you’re looking for a truly risk-free trial, we’d recommend alternatives like Emma, Kally, or Panda – all of which offer a better sleep trial period.

Should you buy the Derila pillow?

The Derila pillow didn’t fully convince us – the foam felt average and the fit wasn’t ideal for our tester.

Still, it might work for you, depending on your sleep position and mattress.

It’s compact and offers a different design, but there are better-quality alternatives out there.

Frequently asked questions

  • Where can I buy the Derila pillow?

Derila ships to most continents, including the US, Australia, Europe, Asia, and Africa.

We ordered the Derila pillow from the manufacturer's official website.

When ordering from the Derila pillow website, it will be shipped from China to the UK, which takes around 8 - 12 days.

However, you can buy Derila pillows (also the Derila Ergo pillow [4]) on Amazon for quicker delivery.

Currently, no other retailers in the UK stock the Derila pillow.

If you're in Europe, you can also buy via Amazon, though we'd recommend checking out some alternative EU-based pillows like the Lilia Forever Pillow instead.

  • Does the Derila pillow help with snoring?

One of the claims made by Derila is that the pillow can help reduce snoring.

In our test, we didn’t notice any significant improvement in our tester’s partner’s snoring while using the pillow.

Still searching for a real solution?

Check out our guide to anti-snore pillows.

  • Is the Derila pillow suitable for children?

Generally, we wouldn’t recommend the Derila pillow for children.

Kids need specially designed pillows (like the Panda Kids pillow) that suit their smaller size and growing bodies.

A standard adult memory foam pillow like Derila is simply too firm and high for most children.

  • Is the Derila pillow legit?

The Derila pillow is a real product and ships quickly – but reviews are mixed.

Some customers on Trustpilot mention issues with returns and unexpected extra charges.

  • Is the Derila pillow good for sleep apnea?

The brand markets the Derila pillow as a way to open airways and reduce snoring.

In our test, we didn’t find it effective for sleep apnea – consult a specialist if that’s your main concern.
